about

This song was inspired by an interview that I conducted with the late Joey Pierre from the Penticton Indian Band.I asked him to tell me a story of his resilience. I asked him what the apology meant to him.
He told me that the apology meant nothing to him, and that the money meant nothing to him.
He pointed down the road at the Catholic Church. He said, "I have nothing against God. I know how much money has gone into renovating and maintaining that church. I have to drive by it every single to and from my home. It is a reminder of all of the years that I spent in residential school." He said, "If they were to tear down that church and build houses for the people. This is a song of resilience and also of reconciliation as we all move forward.
